What is measured

Cloudflare Web Analytics measures broad site traffic. It is a privacy-first analytics service. Its data is retained for six months.

This site also keeps anonymous daily totals for article views, a reading-depth proxy, calculator use, copied results and article links, and clicks to discuss an article or contact me. A contact click records only that the link was opened. It does not say whether a message was sent.

How article engagement works

The reading-depth proxy is counted after an article has been visible in the foreground for a total of 60 seconds and the reader has reached 75% of the article body. It is an approximate signal of reading, not proof that someone read or agreed with the article.

Each article page load creates a fresh random page-view ID in browser memory. It is not stored in a cookie or local storage. The ID is sent only with the article identifier and event name so the same page load is counted once for each type of event.

Event receipts containing that temporary ID are removed by the next daily cleanup after they reach 48 hours old, so a receipt may exist for up to about 72 hours. Only daily aggregate totals are retained. The custom records do not contain names, email addresses, account IDs, persistent visitor IDs, or an IP address with the event. No attempt is made to identify visitors from this engagement data.

Calculator data

Values entered in an article calculator stay in the browser and are never sent to this site. The site records only that the calculator was used or that its result text was copied.

Network information

Cloudflare processes network information needed to deliver and secure requests and to apply rate limits. This site does not store an IP address with its custom engagement events.

Your privacy signals

Custom article engagement events are not sent when the browser reports Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. This site has no advertising, session replay, or persistent analytics identifier.
